Alpcologne

The sounds of the Alps are reaching out up to the shores to the river Rhine!

The concerts by the Cologne based trio Alpcologne often begin with echoes slowly approaching from far. But as traditional as the beginning of a concert by the Alpcologne trio can be, the musical adventure develops in an astonishing way: Cajun, bluegrass, oriental music, tango, 'Watschenwalzer' or a samba medley are certainly rare to hear played on an alphorn.

The musical limitations of the alphorns, which are limited to the production of 'natural sounds', prove to be a fascinating challenge. Alpcologne coaxes amazingly diverse melodies from the almost 4-meter-long, iconic original instruments of the alpine mountain world.

The Alpcologne wind section is completed by singer Victoria Riccio. The Italian-American vocalist swings with a clear, powerful voice and makes it clear to even the last listener that a completely new alpine sound is being created here: jazzy, groovy, happy, offbeat - and experimental. Whether original compositions or new interpretations, singing and alphorns merge into an exciting musical unit. In addition to special playing techniques on the alphorns, Alpcologne also amazes with harmonious combinations of other instruments such as the recorder or sousaphone.
Instead of postcard romance, Alpcologne is in the best company of the young Alpine music scene, which is dusting off the alphorns of Edelweiss and museum-like fake folk music in order to open up the instrument to the creative music scene.
